The Meaning Of Friendship
Maria Mercedes Restrepo

Once Upon a time, in very far away place, lived a princess. She was called Drucilla. This princess was beautiful, blond long hair, blue eyes, white skin, and a charming personality. She had thousands of animals, of jewelry, and of land. She had a castle in Spain, one in France, and the one she lived in was in England. Her castle had beautiful grass lands, rivers, flower, everything that a human being could desire. She had everything beauty, land, everything excepts friends. Her father always told her that everything she desired, everything she asked would be given to her. The only thing she desired with all her heart, was a person who she could talk to, a person in who you could trust, a person with all the qualities to make her laugh, a person to make her sad days happy, a person who will give her advisees and help her solve problem, a friend. “You have a lot of Servants, I will give the order to one of them to be your friend,” but Drucilla said: “Father, I mean real friends, some one you can trust and trusts you, let me go to town and stop being a princess for one week, if I do not get a new friend, then I will come back and keep living my miserable life.”

The next day, Drucilla left the doors of the castle dressed with dirty clothes, just looking as a normal person. She went to the town, just a few hill from her castle. When she got there, she saw people fighting, loud noises, she did not expected what she was going to see. She saw a little tent, with a man inside. She head a few steps to the tent, she entered and asked the man for a piece of bread. The man said with a rough voice: “It is five pennies, do you have the money?” Drucilla very scared said in a low voice: “No sir I have no money, and I am so hungry, can you give me a piece of bread.” The man laughed at her face, and turned around, Drucilla just wanted to scream at his face and say that she was the Princess of England, but she stopped and controlled herself. She hide underneath the counter, and when the man was distracted she stole a piece of bread. The man unfortunately saw her and started screaming. He was going to hit poor Drucilla but, miraculously a girl, just the age of Drucilla saved her, she took her to the top of an abandoned building, and there the girl gave her some bread and milk.

She started talking to the girl, “Hi my name is La Mata Hari, I am from Israel.” “Hi I am Drucilla, from England.” La Mata Hari said in a loud voice: “nice, you are named the same as the princess of England, she is also named Drucilla.” Very scared and amazed, Drucilla told La Mata Hari all the truth she said that she had everything she desired, money, land, food, clothes, everything except a good friend. La Mata Hari, confessed that she was the princess of Israel, that her parents were going to force her marry a man she did not loved, so she ran away to England looking for a better life, a free life, a life with out traditions, a life she could enjoy her way. For five days, Drucilla and La Mata Hari, talked and laughed and did things together. The seventh day had concluded and she had to get back to the castle. She was very sad to leave her friend behind. She went up the hill crying, and begging that her father would let her go out of the castle sometimes to visit her friend. When she arrived she went to her father and asked him if she could go out of the castle sometime to visit her dearest friend. Her father told her that absolutely not, that he was a princess and that she should remain in the castle. She went very depressed to her room and there she spent like about three weeks, until the day of her birthday.
The day of her Birth Day, Drucilla was very depressed. For obligation she had to assist to the dance that was held on her honor. She went, and all the beautiful princes wanted to dance with her, she did dance, but with a very sad humor. In the middle of the party, the horns sounded, and a beautiful girl entered the doorway, she was dressed as a princess she had a beautiful long, blue dress. When Drucilla saw her, she went very fast and hugged her.

After this beautiful event, Drucilla learned what friendship means, and learned that friend are counted in the fingers of your hands, and that she never, ever should let a friend go so easily.
