Egalitarianism E Rocco Caldwell
"Just come here and take a look?"
Fear inhibited him with its sour ingenuity. It was after all a cleverly crafted thing spinning on axels generating energy beyond control more powerful than a million suns. The curtains of the chambers swayed pneumatically and the brightness of the world's sun shone golden against the stone balcony. The sage stood defiantly in the zephyr with his arms open wide. The pussy willow patterns woven in his robe postulated the sunlight on each ament.
"You seek redemption don't you, Hospitaler" His voice rung like a Chinese chime. "Your hands are stained with the blood of the innocent!" The frightened man knew of the stigma he carried in so many nightmares. Fear was polyphyletic he discovered manifesting in many forms and signaled by so many things. The sunlight off the stone reminded him of the blade of a sword drawn by his own hand. Fear germinated in his very essence.
"More like peace then redemption because I fought on that side once before," the scared man managed to say.
Blood soaked banners and weary men gawkish against the background of sand and sky stilled marred his mind. He saw crusaders cutting women and children in half.
"Step out here and see for yourself that this is paradise." He could have been Jesus the pathetic man thought trying to stare at the sage's face lit by the brilliance of the sun; the wind whipping insanely pushing over the fabric of his robe and through his long hair. The scared man stepped from the chambers on to the precipice like Peter stepped out of the boat. His legs felt as if they would buckle beneath the sheer force of the wind. What his eyes adorned quieted the mightiest of storm. In the distance sat the kingdom of gold and silver orthodoxy oscillating a hum that was only equal to the voices of angels. But for a moment he felt he had seen such a wonder before. He knew that could never be something as radiant and marvelous as the sight before him he would have never forgotten. "Let go and receive," the sage said. The wind encircled the man lifted him high above the balcony and for several tense moments fear seemed to release him and he moved towards the kingdom. He began to weep unsure if the tears he shed were of joy or sorrow. He hovered high above the cavern that separated the precipice from the kingdom. There was a rich blackness in the cavern. Such a cavern was an effrontery to the splendor of the kingdom. The smooth rocks of the sheer cliffs where the kingdom rested emerged from the clouds the higher he went. He stared back over his shoulder and the sage was just a point on the precipice and than he saw where he had come. The sight frightened him egregiously so that he nearly stopped breathing. The precipice was the hollowed nose of a colossal skull. He knew the place unsure why he would... Gehenna the place of misery. He rose from the valley of Hinnom.
"But I fought for the lord," he mumbled. "Why would I come from such a place?" Then he realized who the sage could only have been…. He began to descend into the blackness watching the cliffs of the kingdom swathe into the clouds. He panicked swinging his arms and kicking his legs trying to stay aloft but it was useless. He could hear the insane laughter emitting from the sage, now devil perverted and warped appearing like Punchinello. Down he went in the freezing ebony watching it pouring over him like water. Down he fell until his feet touched the hardness of a stone step. Blackness pushed in at him and his hands fumbled around until they touched a icy railing. Hell was a helix with no end. A vision of his mother appeared before him.
"You are a victim of your enculturation that's why you performed the evil acts," the vision said.
"I thought I was right in doing them. They weren't like us and worshiped the wrong god! I thought I was doing what was right. We held the morality and the justice! I thought I was right," he pleaded.
"As did all egalitarians before you and all will do after you."
On the precipice the sage opened his arms wide inviting the man to step out on the balcony. "Come and take a look, American."

"I love this, brother. You remind me a lot of John A Williams at his best. You have a elegant moral authority that comes with understanding your roots in the community and the basic church based humanism that has made this country better, whether the country liked it or not.
