TITLE (EDIT)
Goodnight Sweet Kevin
DESCRIPTION
It concerns me that we, as a species, follow trends and "buzzwords", and anyone who dares to question the self-styled Hierophants of the Press and Govenment is crucified at the Altar of Supposed Freedom. This is not a story about questioning what you see, but more blindly following what you are spoon-fed.

Goodnight Sweet Kevin
Harvey Kennett

His Royal Arch-Inquisitor, P’tang P’tang Noof-er-bling has petitioned our most high and noble leader, Tony Blair, over the blatant humanism we have exhibited as a species in our small and frankly quite insignificant part of the Galaxy, just off the Milky Way.

In a keynote speech, the Royal Arch-Inquisitor gargled with his 3 orifii that “Human Exclusivity and Tenure of the Planet formally known as “Kevin” was “Tantamount to Space Racism of the Highest Degree”.

Citing a complete lack of integration with the other star-faring nations, the Arch-Inquisitor claimed that “The human species, as a whole, is inherently racist, and I shall be advocating that the Galactic High Council recommend that action be taken to exclude Planet Kevin from any jamborees we might enjoy in the Andromeda Galaxy”.

The Prime Minister, Tony Blair, was said to be apoplectic with rage at the Royal Arch-Inquisitor’s comments and has promised that an immediate “Focus Group” be set up to look in to these scurrilous accusations.

After the Royal Arch-Inquisitor made his speech, a visibly shaken Prime Minister took to the podium to address the assembled journalists.

“It’s my belief”, he said, “that as we as a Nation grow, we must embrace diversity in all its galactic forms and extend a warm hand of friendship and tolerance to any pseduopod-like appendage that is offered in return. Only by welcoming our far-flung friends from Ceta Canis IV can we move forward as a society and transcend our petty divisions here on Kevin. To this end, with immediate effect, I welcome the Kyranian peoples of Ceta Canis IV and welcome them to our part of the Galactic Neighbourhood. Provisions have been drawn up to arrange suitable housing and benefits for their highly-skilled and talented workforce, to come and live here in the UK and experience the best we have to offer. Even if it means hardships must be endured for our own people. I know in my heart of hearts that they will welcome the Kyranians with open arms.”

***********************
Day 3, London, a page from a battered diary.

“The drop-ships still come. Like vast silver raindrops the size of houses, hurtling down through the clouds before their rockets engage some 100 feet or so from the ground.

Moments after they land, the doors on all four sides open and the creatures start pouring out. Twisted, bent, misshapen gargoyles with black leathery wings and barbed tails. It is hard to see where the vileness begins and the butchery ends.

The streets overflow with blood, a red welcoming carpet that our galactic friends have no qualms traversing, for they themselves have weaved its fibres of ferocity.

There is no Law, no Order, only Chaos and Destruction in the Carnage Capital of our Country.

Ultimately, we have brought this Armageddon upon ourselves, for we had been beaten black and blue through the years past to celebrate diversity in all its wonderful forms.

We were sold the Lie, and we believed it. We wanted to believe it because it made us feel better about ourselves.

Diversity was the repentance of a Nation that had been chastised by the few.

Most of us had learned to live with the actions of our forefathers, but some of us were determined that we should never forget.

As the scalpel cut deep in to our national psyche, it seemed that every part of our lives was under the microscope of those who harboured a grudge to cut out our very souls and feed them to our psychologically-engineered guilt and fear.

We were easy prey for the Kyranians.

In their ruthless exploitation of our friendship, they taught us something that we had been taught to forget.

How to survive.
