Beyond Death
Robert A Ferguson

You were just lying there still and dead. The blood was running from under your still warm body. I felt as though this could not be, but as I looked around, it was everywhere to see. You were all dead. A few of the women and I were the only to survive. We all mourned over our lost loves. We were anything but at place in this horrid environment, surrounded in such gore. The dark red that seemed to devour all grace present meant nothing to us, for we only saw our lost. I saw you... lying there. I could think of only a time when all was beautiful, when we needed only each other, a time before this damned war. Now I don't have you, and with you all of this love and beauty seemed to have went. I begin to see only darkness, only gloom. This emptiness seems to steal my breath and numb all sensation. As it takes over me, I fall upon your chest, becoming one with this hell. All of this now seems to mean nothing, seems to be almost the opposite, because I feel as though my time is near. I know that I am soon to follow, and I will soon greet your eager wait. What's left of my strength and love is now diverted to only one place. My hand still clinches firmly to yours, never to let go again. As the last essence of my life begins to slip from me, I instinctly recite that line that we spoke to each other long ago: "I love you, and forever it will always be."

"makings of something wonderful...hang in there" -- e. rocco caldwell.
"Beyond Death really gives a chilling, realistic sense of how someone feels before they die. It shows how much one loves other people through how they feel and what they see." -- Joshua Bermudez, Des Plaines, IL, United States.
