Joe's Life
James Mudge
This is the life of Joe Warner a 15-year-old teen that attends the School of Starwood High School. Joe was a very busy man. The sports that he is involved in are Basketball and Soccer. Joe also has two jobs including, a cashier at Wal-Mart and being a baby-sitter. Joe was very upbraided while baby-sitting because he fed the kids to much junk food and he got scolded a lot. His family consists of a dad, mom, two brothers, and two sisters. He was the oldest out of all of them. Today was a very unusual day. He was in 6th period and hadn’t been assigned any homework. His class was language arts and his teachers name was Mrs. Miles. Mrs. Miles was a very bulky woman and could bench press 220 lb. She was a little bit taller than Joe and had glasses. Today the class was going over Vocabulary Words.
The class was talking quietly when Mrs. Miles replied, “Does anyone know what fortuitous means?”
A kid named Andrew answered, “It means, uh can I use that in a sentence?”
“Sure”
“Their meeting at the library was entirely fortuitous; they hadn’t planned to get together.”
“Very well put, Andrew”, stated Mrs. Miles.
Andrew was one of Joe’s best friends and they have been in each other’s class since the 3rd grade. Andrew was the same age and height as Joe, but they had nothing else in common. The class period ended with the sound of the loud bell.
The whole school rushed to the buses to get a good seat. On the way there it was so tight and squished that Joe ran into a guy and a fight broke out. Joe and Billy were head-to-head punching, dodging, and kicking. The P.E. coach Mr. Rainy broke up the fight. The two boys both tried to talk at the same time to make an excuse as to why the fight started. Mr. Rainy couldn’t hear a word they tried to spit out. Mr. Rainey thought that it was a foreign language because it was very hard to understand.
“That was very ambiguous”, the coach replied confused.
The boys both told their side of the story and were let go just in time to make the bus ride home. When Joe got home the house was empty. There was a note on the refrigerator that told Joe to make him a quick bowl of Mac n’ Cheese and reminded him he had to go to his cashier job at Wal-Mart. Joe was able to walk to his job because it was only five blocks away from his house. As he approached Wal-Mart he remembered that he was going to be assigned to stocking floors today. Today he would be a provisional worker because he regular job was being hired as a cashier. His cashier job had a salary of five dollars an hour and on busy days he would get ten dollars an hour. Today he would work extremely hard to get employee of the day. A girl named Amy has gotten employee of the day for a whole week. Joe was not going to let this opportunity slip by him. Joe had to work from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Things were going great until he accidentally put to many groceries in the bag, and the bottom split making a large mess on the floor. The boss came to see what had happened and was disappointed. Joe felt very ashamed of himself to make such a silly mistake. As the day ended all the employees met for the presentation of the award.
“This is one of the hardest working bunch of kids I have ever seen my entire life. But, the award for employee of the day goes to AMY. Congratulations Amy for having earned the award for the eighth day in a row,” congratulated the boss.
Joe made inflammatory remarks under his breath so he didn’t have to excite anger to all the staff. Joe, tired and angry, walked back home to go do his homework and go to bed. School was horrible the next day for Joe. He got a math test back that had a 78% and video questions in Science that he got a 79% on. He also had homework in every class. The day was very insupportable. All the homework was unbearable and he also had to work that night. He had to call his boss and tell him that he wouldn’t be able to work today. Joe’s boss told him it would be all right not to come to work.
It was about four o’clock and the mail truck came. Joe saw the mailman while shooting baskets in his driveway taking a break from his homework. He went to go get the mail and one of the letters was from his boss. The letter to him was about the additional taxes that were going to be taken out of his paycheck. When he looked at the amount Joe was surprised on how much tax was going to be levied against him. His take home salary was going to drop significantly. The letter also told Joe that even though he may not have the ability to be a stockman, his expertise is being a cashier. Joe showed the letter to his mom and she was very proud of him for the comments on his cashier work. The boss wanted to have a conference with him tomorrow right after school in his office.
The day at school went by a little bit better, but he still remembered the incident that he had at the grocery store the day before. In history class there was a petition going around about why the school grounds were so dirty. Many of the kids agreed with the complaint but some of them didn’t. After school was out Joe was on his way to the conference in his presentable, decent clothes. He had a collared shirt, kakis and dress shoes. Inside the office was his boss waiting patiently as ever for Joe to come. They both had lots of things to cover about school and his job. When Joe arrived he sat down in one of the office chairs.
“Joe, things are not going very well financially”, the boss complained. “I think I need to cut a couple people so we can start to gain more money”.
“Wait, hold on a second, you’re saying that you want to cut me”, replied Joe.
“No, I didn’t say I was going to cut you, I just needed your help in helping me figure out who to cut”.
Joe agreed to help the boss out and they had a fun time together getting to know some things they didn’t even know about each other. Joe and the boss made up their mind to cut Paul, Will, Marco, and Barbara.
“Thanks for helping me pare down the workers, we sure needed to reduce our excess employees”, thanked the boss.
“No problem, any time”, answered Joe.
Joe went home to a stress free world to take a nap.
Joe now is less silly and started to care what people really think inside. Whenever he sees someone do anything wrong he is there to redress the problem, to make sure it is corrected.
Joe is now all grown up, is married, and has two kids and a dog. He has most of his allegiance to his faith and his college, Texas A&M because he loves and respects these symbols. This was the life of Joe Warner.
