Manipulated By The Seer La Longue Carabine
The old Seer took Seth’s head in both hands and began studying his face. He muttered to himself, turning the young boys face this way and that and gently pressing his temples. Last of all he took a long, deep look into Seth’s eyes. Seth was beginning was beginning to lose patience with the old mans probing and mutterings and was about to say so when finally the seer spoke. “Hmmm yes, very peculiar indeed” He let out a long sigh.
“What’s peculiar?” Seth demanded
“Well, the power is there, but it seems that somehow, or through some event, you have cut your ties to it. If this is the case you should remember doing so”
“I’ve told you before, I don’t remember anything of the sort!” But something niggling at the back of Seth’s mind told him he was lying. “What if I had no power to start with, what if this has all been a big mistake? What if…” Seth was cut short by the old man’s low chuckle.
“You do have the gift,” he affirmed “it flows through you more strongly than anything I have ever felt. The fact that you cannot feel it yourself is what amazes me. You say that you cannot remember when you cut your ties to it, then I will help you remember”
“And how do you propose to do that?” Seth inquired unmoved.
“I shall take you on a journey into your mind” the Seer replied simply.
Once again the Seer placed his hands on Seth’s temples, but this time a warmth began to spread beneath them which felt as if it was penetrating to the very center of his head. A faint ringing began in his ears, almost unperceivable at first, but steadily growing louder and louder until it was a high pitched screech. Seth tried to scream, but his voice was choked and muffled. It now felt as if hot needles were being pushed through his skull into the soft tissue of his brain. His vision began to waver, the room felt as if it was spinning, then everything went black.
When Seth opened his eyes he found that he was not in the dusty little room with the old man. Tall fir trees stood above him swaying in the afternoon breeze, while far off he could hear the babble of a stream. As he was picking himself off the ground, Seth received his first shock. He glanced down at his feet to find they were not his feet at all, but much smaller - the feet of a six year old. Heart thumping, Seth felt his face to find that it had changed also. His mind began to race. What had happened? He projected his thoughts back to the meeting with the Seer and then it dawned on him. The Seers last words echoed through his swirling thoughts “I shall take you on a journey into your mind”.
So this was the old mans way of ‘helping’ him remember the suppressed memory – to make him relive it. Then another disturbing thought entered his mind. If this had been the day which he had severed the connection to his power, then something big must have happened – something terrible.

"This was great! It was wonderfully atmospheric throughout, something I certainly can't claim with my own works. I have only a few criticisms. "Seth tied to scream" I think you mean here 'tried'. "Her glanced down at his feet" I think you mean here 'He'. Wonderful! If you like, you could read and review my short story "The Man Who Walked Unseen", but I foreworn you. If you do decide to read the story, don't read any of the reviews. Please keep up the magnificence. " -- Michael Harris, Detroit, MI.
"Thanks a lot for that Michael. I read your piece "The Man Who Walked Unseen" and thought it was fantastic. I left a review for you. Bye and thanks again." -- La Longue Carabine.
