The Antichrist Of The Blue Moon Abbie Angel
This city that I'm in is an old city, and the Mission of the Blue Moon is, quite possibly, the oldest building in town. It sits at the end of a dead-end street, with bone-white crumbling walls, hidden in the shadows of Weeping Willow trees. Hi, my name is Abbie Angel and I have been running away from a bad home since last April. Five days ago I came here and found a nice peaceful park. I sleep on park benches because sleeping makes me forget how hungry I am sometimes. Well, a girl, as old as I am, woke me up. She could tell that I was a runaway and asked me if I wanted to go with her to get something to eat, and get a change of good, used clothes, and maybe a shower.
That all sounded so good and so I followed Amy Dawson through a really old part of town, a part that most people forgot about. Every town has a part of life that people don't want to look at; a place where the sick go to die because they have no money or nobody who cares about them; a place where hunger stares at you in the face. Anyway, Amy led me down this cu-de-sac, lined with so many twisted trees that the street was blocked from the sunshine. Way in back was a dead-end alley, and that's where Reverend Godson runs the Mission of the Blue Moon. At first, I didn't want to go in, but hunger makes you do things that you don't want to do. Inside, the walls were painted with murials of religious pictures--devils fighting angels. Amy led me down some stairs and into a cellar room that smelled like bread does when it spoils, but real strong. There was this black guy at the bottom of the stairs, sitting by the door. He got up and smiled and I saw most of his teeth were gone. He said hello to Amy and asked me if I was here to get cured by Godson. He said that Godson was the new Messiah and a Savior to the street people. He told me that Godson saved him and that he was dead when Godson touched him and brought him back to life. He was a spooky guy and I was glad to get way from him.
When Amy took me inside, there were more paintings on the walls, but this time the devils and demons were killing the angels. Amy saw me looking at them and told me that the angels were really the bad ones. The demons were the good beings, fighting to get heaven back and that God was the False Prophet. Amy said that is what Godson preaches and for centuries, people were led by deceit into thinking that Lucifer was the bad one. Suddenly, I turn around and I see this tall, thin man standing behind me. He is dressed in all black, almost like old-time clothes or something. His hair is pure silver and he has gray eyes; eyes that look deep inside you, like he is looking into your soul. I shiver by his look and then he smiles. His smile looks nice, and his face becomes handsome, like Paul Neuman, only younger. He tells mee his name, Godson, and squeezes my hand. His hand feels like ice, something dead, kind of oily, like a snake or lizard. I try to pull away but he puts his other hand around it, and suddenly it warms up. He welcomes me to his church and asks if I would like a hot meal. He says that I am pretty under all the dirt and I needed to shower. Then he would see to a change in clothes and give me food, All I had to do was pray with his church at night. He also said I could stay as long as I wanted to and that he hoped that would be a long time. His voice was smooth, like velvet, and so calming.
Well, I went in to shower. The water was kind of cold and the soap smelled like spice of some kind; so did the shampoo, but at least I was clean again. I found clothes that somebody put out for me and my old clothes were gone. The blue jeans were kind of tight, but I got into them, and the top was way too small. Amy waited in the hall and took me around to meet all the people there. They all said that Godson was their Savior; they all said the same thing and that he was the new leader of the new church. I was so hungry that I was getting dizzy, and that soapy spice smell made me feel strange. My jeans were so tight that it hurt around my waist. Well, the next thing I know, I was talking to this one guy and everything went black.
I woke up in a room that was really dark except for some candles flickering. Godson was sitting in a chair beside me, whispering to somebody but nobody was there. I was still real dizzy from that smell of spice and he gave me a cup of tea to drink, with that same spice smell, and some toast. While I ate, he told me how the bible was all wrong and it was his mission on earth to tell the truth, to lead the people in the right direction. I started to believe what he was saying and he asked if I would pray with him and I did. His prayers were weird, not like any prayers I know. The next thing I know I fell asleep from his soothing voice and the dizziness. Somebody slaps my face and I see it is a girl, telling me that I have to go. She said that Godson is no good, and that if I stay here too long, he will make me believe. I'm still dizzy and I can't really get out of bed. She tells mee that it is because of my tight jeans cutting off the blood flow, and the mix of herbs that drugs people, and Godson gives you just enough to eat to keep you alive, but weak. At first I don't believe her and I just want to sleep. Then she reaches down and shows me something--I think it is a skull, only it has horns sticking out on top.
The whole place, the people are all strange. I have to get out, so she helps me up. There is a small cellar window that's locked, but she shows me that the pane is lose and removes it. She also gives mee my gym bag that they took from me when I showered. The girl was crying and I told her to come with me, but she said it was too late for her because Godson said she was marked by the beast.. So I squeezed out of that tiny window. It was raining outside and I ran down the alley, the cu-de-sac, and into the streets again. I felt better with the rain washing that smelly odor of spice off my clothes. Anyway, I ran and ran, getting far away from the mission. I go into a laundrymat and saw a bag of cloths near one of the machines. I see a woman up at the counter, getting change. Nobody else was there so I grabbed some clothes from her bag and ran out of the place. I spotted some tomato plants up on a fire escape in some pots and managed to get a couple to eat and they were juicy. I found another park and changed clothes behind some bushes, leaving those spicy clothes back there. I sat on a park bench and started crying, when this old lady comes by and asks if I am okay. I looked up and nodded, then told her that I couldn't find the Mission of the Blue Moon and that is why I was crying. She looked at me funny.
She told me that the mission burned down twenty years ago and there was nothing at the end of that alley but an empty field now. I didn't go back there to check, but I did go back to where I dumped the clothes Godson gave me. That wasn't a spicy smell in those clothes. They smelled like wood smoke.
