The ghosts of the highway

In the middle of the night, when nothing dares to stir shadowy figures arrive. They stand old and true by the side of the road, known to none at all. Just legends in time, just a myth that’s all. But a rumour that came to my ears.

Once I drove the highway at night, whistling a simple tune, when I felt a haunting stare coming from within the trees. I glanced out of my window, but there was nothing to see just shadows and trees. So I drove on in silence starring into the night wondering what there could be. I glanced at my watch, it had just turned 12pm and subconsciously I gazed out into the night. And to my shock, in the silvery moonlight stood ghost white figures. All drifting slightly in the gentle wind. They were ghosts, but not the kind you normally know. They were trees twisted gnarled and old. Pale white in the moon. Yet though they seemed older than time itself they still stood strong and tall. I drove trough the night till 1pm when suddenly all the magic was gone. The trees became trees, not Spirits of time. I knew what I had seen was something special.

That night I learnt an important lesson. Rumours teach us in ways we cannot imagine, we hear a story and either believe or we don’t. Sometimes what we hear is a fraction of the truth. A half story, half-truth. We are born to be curious and search all the answers. But some things were never made to be answered. So throughout your life. Make the decision, either accept what you are told, or search for the answers, but don’t be disappointed if it’s not what you thought.
