The Day That Will Never Be Forgotten
Ryuichi Minamino

I remember it so distinctly as if it had happened only yesterday, but it has been about two years since that unforgettable night. I doubt that anyone who was in the car will ever forget it. Without a strand of doubt in my mind, I know we all saw our life flash before our very eyes.
I’d say it was going on three in the morning. There was howling wind, thick sheet like rain, and crashing thunder. We were heading to my house. The driver Mike, a young boy only 17, struggled to keep the car in control, but didn’t want to pull over. Truth be told, we were already late. My boyfriend, Josh, and I set in the back, cuddled close; both of us were dozing off and on. In the front passenger seat, sat my little sister, Linette; shaking and jumping with each flash of lightening. None of us knew of this sudden storm, it was unpredicted, and we just happened to be caught in the middle.
Heading down a long dark road, nothing on either side except gigantic oak trees, we thought we were the only vehicle on road that night. Mike tried to blare the radio hoping to block out the thunderous sounds, but luck was against us; the stereo-system died, leaving only the whistling of the wind. I somehow drifted off to sleep; leaning on Josh’s shoulder, but that peaceful time was short-lived, as I heard a bloody scream. Snapping awake, I barely had time to react; we hit an oncoming truck head on. Mike shielded his eyes, Linette’s head struck the dashboard, and Josh and I slammed into the front seats. The car began to spin, Mike desperately tried to regain control, but he couldn’t. As it spun, we neared a drop-off ditch; Josh leaned over me as we fell. First we rolled sideways, trashing the widows, glass flew everywhere. Flipping twice more, everyone screamed as our heads hit the roof, and then it was over.
“Is everyone alright?” Josh barely coughed out. Managing to crawl out the broken window, he felt glass slice into his legs. “Ah,” Once out, he pulled us all out of the torn, smoking pile of scrap.
My sister and I were alright other than being in shock and a little cut up from when the windows broke. We sat under the overpass, trying to stay calm. I wrapped my arms around her and tried to tell her that we’d all be okay.
Mike was who we were most worried about. He was in shock, and he couldn’t believe that we had survived. Opening his mouth as if to say something he fainted, hitting the ground hard. That’s when we noticed that his clothes were bloodstained.
Then the sounds of help filled our ears, an ambulance pulled up and immediately started treating Mike, placing him into the ambulance. Josh rode with them, as Linette and I were checked out, and bandaged up.
