If I Only Were A Thief Lisa Petro
This should be read to the tune of "If I Only Had A Brain" from the Wizard of Oz.
I could cook the corporate books
like Mafia and crooks
and you would never know
I could maximize the profits
which I'd use to line my pockets
If I only were a thief.
Oh I could live so well
a house by the sea shore
access to the white house
and what's more
the court supreme
but that's not all.
I use taxpayer and shareholder money
to support my costly life style
I am sure you will agree
It's great for me and mine
But if you took a paper clip
you'd do time
If I only were a thief.
Oh I could lie and lie
distorting all the facts
collecting honorariums off the backs
of the fools
who don't fight back.
I could bribe my way to power
and not account one hour
to those who foot the bills.
As I shell out all the honey
to the Congress who wants money
If I only were a thief.
Oh it's nice to be me
Without any integrity
or personal accountability
because the laws are not for me.
I would have so many friends
and there would be no end
to the largess that I need
All I'd have to do is call
the senator down the hall
If I only were a thief
