An Ode To Laziness
Kain

An ode to laziness

How I enjoy lying around
No care, nor responsibility
TV on, nothing interesting
Food and Drink lie about
half finished and spilt
how could I want anything more?

Despite my happiness (or in spite?)
they prattle on about activities
that I must partake in
outside in the sun, the cold wind
At these pleas, I clutch the sofa cushions
harder than before

But what if they're right?
There could be good things out there
New people, exciting adventures
All this outside my front door
Now the sun doesn’t seem to burn so bright
the wind doesn’t feel as cold
the clear blue sky looks more meaningful

Step by step now
one foot at a time
Feeling the carpet between my toes
stretching my arms, sweeping crumbs off my chest
My sights set on the light beyond the glass

Now my body moves forward
with intent to live life
take it by the neck and throttle
squeeze and savor every minute
Anxious fingers turn the knob
Body willingly pushes through
the barrier that separates the safe
comfortable world of my living room
with the exciting outside, that great beyond

Alas! Suck in the air
it’s still cold
Bask in the sun
my eyes hurt
Talk to the people
they ignore me
Disappointment prevails
and I feel lost
So I have stepped into the outside
Now what? Nothing

Now the angry sun sets
and I am still left out in the elements
but a familiar warmth hits my back
and a familiar voice speaks to me
Turning I see the TV
welcoming as always

Step back into that safe world
Lie back down on that couch
and let them prattle on
I have walked the path outside
I lived in that cruel world
Life is more interesting on TV
than that harsh reality
