Can He See Me? Tamsin Butler
The day is like any other, I put on the false face and smile.
It feels like a mask being held in front of my face.
The hand grasping it is invisible to me, and yet i know who it is.
Instead of eyes, just cold blue without a spark of life.
The mouth twisted into the leering grin of a circus clown.
I spend all my time trying to impress those around me.
For once it would be nice to wipe away the mask and slap the hand away.
I would love to see the colour return to the sullen cheeks.
To see the eyes bright and clear of tears.
But as I watch the tears fall free, making dents in the thick make-up.
In my mind i see the wall being built up to protect me from the outside world.
He could save me, and i know that he is trying.
I love him for that!
But the barrier around me is hard to break because he doesn't see what i see...

"i liked this one... the ending was good too" -- Carla Thomson.
"I know exactly what you mean here and I think if people are honest, everyone feels this way. Do we see one thing and everyone else sees us in another way? You must have had a bad hair day, yet no-one else seems to notice? We see ourselves so much more often than anyone else, we immediately see the tiny imperfections as obvious. So similarly, does what we see as good and attractive in ourselves actually look hideous!? Once again Tamsin, top stuff! :)" -- Peter Halpin, London, UK.
"Relating... Everyone looking over my shoulder... To see what I put on the page... Blinded by the words between the lines... They think they are looking at me... BrokenWordsPoet... I enjoy your work... " -- James, Ruffin, SC, USA.
