TITLE (EDIT)
Decisions Of Allegiance
DESCRIPTION
As a teenager, I revealed my most precious secret to my best friend - my love for him. He rejected me. That painful experience influenced some of the thoughts in this poem.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Who me? Born in 1962. Wrote prolifically as a teenager, heavily influenced by books & the music of the time. Stopped writing for 20 years more or less. But started again...
Some of the work here dates from the "early period" - 1979-1982. The rest is since 2000.
I`ve no idea whether I`m a better writer now or then. Maybe I was never any good! I`ve always wondered.
Feedback most welcome...

I've not visited this site at all since January 2006 as I shortly after discovered the unfettred joys of blogging. I'm still writing and actually had a very good summer of writing. I'm posting a recent poem here now but all my recent work is available on my blog - take a look - http://peter-rivendell-poems.blogspot.com/

Decisions Of Allegiance
Peter Rivendell

We made a secret rendezvous
But events conspired and important things were left unsaid.
Destiny demands what decorum won`t allow.
We`re so well brought up
That ensuing confusion is strongly felt.
Though you didn`t say it,
I could tell by your letter
That you`d rather not cause ripples and repercussions.
A coward`s way out.

I need someone I can talk to.
Consultation without fee,
Just clear advice.
Your involvement makes you alien.
Instinct leaves you permanently "out to lunch".
Solutions are cloudy. Your silence distinct.
Treating emotions like working-class heroes
Reveals your pretensions. It happened to you.
First impressions fool the mind.
Now I`m seeing you a second time
And my inadequacies and inability to cope seems insignificant.

It happened to you and you`re forced to look further than the mirror.
Preconceived ideals litter your room,
Discarded by default. Crisis has calmed you
Into a crowd.
Responses conditioned and ready-made answers on call.
Future years may emphasize your mistake,
But by then I`ll be gone. Hiding in another crowd.

Decisions of allegiance
Are the biggest you`ll make.

DISCLAIMER: STORYMANIA DOES NOT PROVIDE AND IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR REVIEWS. ALL REVIEWS ARE PROVIDED BY NON-ASSOCIATED VISITORS, REGARDLESS OF THE WAY THEY CALL THEMSELVES.

"You have captured a difficult feeling. Try shortening your lines though. You are putting too much in each. They should be glimpses of thoughts or visuals. Proper sentences rarely have the same effect. I would rework this one, it is worth the time!" -- Sylvia.
"I think when I wrote this, the idea was that it was a letter to someone I desperately needed to speak to, but who wouldn`t speak to me, for the terrible truth is I wrote this in 1980 when I was 18. I couldn`t possibly make any material changes to it now - it`s a historical document!" -- Peter Rivendell.
"I understand. It's a shame, but it does make sense. The structure reads better as a letter." -- Sylvia.
