Dream Pain Marie Karr
DREAM PAIN
bruised! In and out
inward and outward the nerves die
in a Chaos under the sky
my tongue scalded
at the touch of a cruel coffee---
some defense from getting sleepy
skin ripped and severed
pain make me grimace at the bump
against the iron study lamp
worse than the corporeal ache
is when one stabs a stupid callous stake
that from one’s stupid callous mouth emanates
bruised! In and out
inward and outward my tissues die
in a Chaotic Life under the sky
