At seventeen she thought she knew A lot more than her parents. Do I wait, or hesitate? Their date Was something to anticipate. He seemed a little rough, at first Perhaps this wouldn't be the worst time, but he says he loves her, so, There she goes, With her eyes wide open
What is love but how we dream it? Does it ever feel the same? Is this one of life's delicious games?
Something she said? He didn't say. It didn't matter anyway, This was just another day She stayed; someday she'll run away. She had to think of where to go What to tell them? I don't know? She can't let the family know Her tears flow With her eyes wide open
What is pain, but how we feel it? Does it ever heal the same? Is this one of life's malicious games?
She was one they didn't save Leaving put her in her grave Secrets that she couldn't share No one helped her, lying there As the light began to dim What was her final thought of him? Looking blankly at the sky She died, With her eyes wide open
What is death, but how we grieve it? Will they all end the same? Tragic proof that life's a vicious game.
Something you may think you saw No, it can't be that at all Let's pretend we didn't see it We're mistaken, that can't be it Mind your own affairs, we say Not our business anyway Turn our heads and walk away Each day With our eyes wide open

"This was well thought out, enjoyed the truth in it and the verses worked well with the emotions reflected. However, this piece should have been posted under Poetry section, as it makes for an excellent poem, but I could not hear a song here." -- Monte, USA.
