Goggles Under Pillow Onederose
I'd rather not write this damn poem.
I Hate Poetry.
Writing this causes a lump to form in my lungs.
I continue to write this because I cannot touch
you.
I continue because the simple completion our minds
have over run all energy I wish to waste in saying
good-bye to poetry.
I Hate Poetry.
I hate it like a woman hates the way the man she'd
sale her soul for sees her as a piece of steak and a side of potatoes.
I hate it like an underweight, malnutritioned,
beaten child hates hearing his stomach growl and having nothing but his very own limbs as the only resolution to his hunger.
I'd rather a plastic, jagged edged spoon gnaw
away my insides than to continue writing this
poem.
My uncontrollable like for you keeps my pen moving.
Perhaps I'll take up tennis.
Maybe I'll learn to play the harmonica.
Surely I'll find you just the same in those.
Pardon me, for I'd rather not call you poetry,
although, you are no one's slogan.
