Hang Ups Tamsin Butler
Ever since I was little, I wished that I could be
Someone a little better, someone other than me!
I sometimes look at slender girls who can wear whatever they want
And wonder what it would be like to have not so much up front.
Or maybe just to have a little less padding in the rear.
To be able to wear tight jeans and sit without a fear,
of escaping wedges and saddle bags hanging over the edge.
Of standing up and not breathing in with no spare tyre ledge
I wish that I would walk down the road without all of the shouts
Of boobs and melons and cor look at them! from the youths and louts.
If only people would see beyond the size of my arse and dumplings
And see that there is a lot more to me, and see all the special things.
I realise that even skinny girls must worry about cellulite and fat
But in my head I believe that because they are smaller there better to look at
If only we could all see that we are beautiful no matter how we look
It’s not the cover we should go by it’s the contents of the book!

"Loved this poem. Very heartfelt but it also made me laugh. Being a well padded lady myself I can relate to the sentiments. Sometimes people don't bother to look any further than the outward packaging. " -- Kate Kerrison.
"I understand how you feel to be stared at..I was a skinny girl with no melons! Us women just can't win!" -- ann gordon.
