DESCRIPTION
An ancient Native American Indian artifact is stolen from Dr. Ace Solana in New Mexico at an archaeological dig in New Mexico. The robber sells the statue to Attie Datura, the owner of an occult shop in New York. Attie, is a fortune teller and gives seances with the help of her wise cracking raven, Edgar. Toloache, the ancient statue's jimsonweed god's spirit, begins to show himself. He is dressed as a Native American Indian warrior, but dressed all in green, signifying the importance of jimsonweed to the Native American Indian
Several historical vignettes of the history of jimsonweed are shown throughout the play (an actor may play many different parts. No scenery is needed for the vignettes.) These are: The ancient Delphi Oracle, the Inca King, Witchcraft during the Middle Ages in the Burning Times, The Jamestown Incident (Jamestown weed became known as Jimsonweed), and The Coming of Age Native American Ceremony.
In the play, Toloache pushes Attie in front of a truck after a Christmas Eve Church service. In the hospital she is awakened by her guardian Angel, who makes an entrance from a grand staircase.
They wander the streets on Christmas Eve, coming to the home of the Andrews. They enter. Janet, the Andrews' daughter, is expecting a baby. Suddenly, Janet goes into labor! Attie and the Angel follow her to the hospital. Toloache appears. Attie and the Angel fight him! They stop him from hurting Janet. Suddenly, Attie collapses!
Attie awakens Christmas morning to the relief of her two sisters! She has no memory of the Angel, or the night's wanderings. She sneeks away from her hospital room to the Hospital Nursery. The Andrew family arrives to see the baby.
Attie sees Dick Andrews and falls in love with him on the spot. He escorts her back to her hospital room.
A year later, Dr. Ace Solana shows up at Attie's shop. She tells Attie's sister, Cinci about the Indian statue and how dangerous it really is. They rush to the Andrews' home where everyone is gathered for Christmas Eve. Dr. Solana confronts Attie about the statue. Attie grabs the statue from Dr. Solana and smashes it!
Toloache is released. And because Attie, now married to Dick Andrews and pregnant, Toloache wants to kill her and her unborn baby. Dr. Solana and Dick fight Toloache. The Angel appears and throws a sword to Dr. Solana to kill Toloache, Dr. Solana kills the ancient Native American god!
Six years later, doing inventory at ther shop, Attie's sister Cinci, asks her the meaning of life. Does she have any answers... Attie sings, Life Is Just A Bowl of Cherries.
In Jimsonweed, there are several historical vignettes. The Delphi Oracle, The Inca King, Witchcraft during the Middle Ages in the Burning Times, The Jamestown Incident, and the Modern Coming of Age Native American Ceremony. Therefore, an actor may play many different parts throughout the play!!

I enjoy writing poetry and have poems published in several anthologies. I am interested in writing screenplays. My screenplay, Raphael The Redemption won Best Fantasy Adventure in the New York Independent International Film and Video Festival in September, 2001. I am interested in writing for the theatre as well.
I participated in the Last Frontier Theatre Conference in Valdez, Alaska this June.
