CHAPTER SIX

For a moment Jared was so shocked he went absolutely still. Then, breaking the kiss, his hand snaked out and grasped the edge of Hannah’s chair pulling it toward him until she was trapped between his open legs. She still wasn’t close enough, so Jared lifted her from the chair and pulled her onto his lap straddling him.
Hannah gasped as the hard ridge of his desire scorched her through the denim they both wore. Jared arched into her heat slightly before tunneling his fingers through her hair and taking possession of her mouth with a devastatingly hot, totally mind numbing kiss. Jared’s hands slid inside Hannah’s shirt to caress her back, then moved to feel the soft skin over her ribs, his thumbs just brushing the undersides of her breasts. Hannah moaned softly and rocked her hips against the growing hardness between her thighs. Jared’s breathing grew heavier and he eased Hannah away slightly. Her hazel eyes, full of heat and desire, stared into his.
With a groan Jared pulled Hannah’s shirt slowly over her head and, eyes never leaving hers, threw the garment across the room. Jared looked down and swallowed hard. The bra she wore under that t-shirt was red and so sheer it left nothing to the imagination. It still wasn’t enough. Jared opened the front clasp and her full, lush breasts were finally fully bared to him.
“Hannah, darlin’, Jared breathed, you’re even more exquisite than I imagined.” He slid his thumbs gently over her hardened nipples and Hannah closed her eyes and began rocking against him again, the friction of his thumbs matching the friction building between her thighs. A low growl escaped Jared’s throat as he stilled her hips. “It’s been a while for me darlin’, I can’t take much more of that.”

Hannah smiled slightly and pulled open the snaps of his shirt, baring his impressive chest. She slid her hands over his shoulders and the shirt slipped down his arms and onto the floor. Jared hissed in a breath when her hands roamed over his chest, her fingernails slightly scraping over his flat male nipples. His jeans rode low on his hips and Hannah began tracing the thin line of hair that

disappeared under his belt with her finger. Her finger skimmed over the belt and lifting herself slightly her hand found his rock hard erection and squeezed.
Jared grabbed her hand and said roughly, “Baby you touch me like that again and I’m gonna embarrass myself right here in your kitchen.” He sighed deeply and putting his arms around Hannah pulled her toward him. He kissed her neck, nipped at her ear lobe, and slowly kissed his way to her breasts. Just before he took her nipple into his mouth, he said, “God Hannah, I want you so much. Hell, I’ve been wantin’ you for…”
Suddenly a very loud beeping began echoing through the house. Hannah and Jared both jumped and at the same time looked around the room. The smoke alarm near the stove had sounded, and there on the stove was Hannah’s t-shirt going up in flames. Jared swore. Hannah jumped up trying to remember where she’d put the fire extinguisher. Jared stomped over to the stove, picked the shirt up with some tongs and threw it into the sink, dousing it with water. Reaching over, he turned the burner off and opened the window above the sink to release some of the smoke swirling around them.
Hannah watched the muscular movement of Jared’s bare back as he moved. She felt a little shell-shocked. Had she really just thrown herself at Jared? Yes, she had and he’d responded beyond her wildest dreams hadn’t he? Hannah shivered at the memory.

Jared turned to face Hannah, a smile tugging the corners of his mouth, but when he saw her, his mouth went dry and his hands fisted at his sides. Hannah had slipped his shirt on to cover herself while he wasn’t looking. The shirt was several sizes too large and she hadn’t bothered to fasten it so it hung open, just barely covering those satiny twin globes he’d so recently held in his hands. Jared looked into Hannah’s wide hazel eyes and a stab of disappointment shot through him. He could see shades of remorse clouding her eyes. She was regretting giving in to an impulse. Jared knew instinctively that Hannah was not a woman prone to doing things on a whim and he was secretly pleased that when she’d let her guard down it had been with him. He didn’t want her running from whatever was going on between them, but he was intuitive enough to know that he was

going to have to slow things down a little, even if it killed him. Damn. He took a couple of deep, calming breaths before he moved to stand in front of Hannah.
Hannah spoke first. “I don’t usually do things like that. I don’t know what came over me, throwing myself at you like that. I’m sorry if it made you uncomfortable.”
Jared chuckled softly. “It made me pretty damn uncomfortable alright, but not in the way you mean. Hannah darlin’ I was just a few seconds away from laying you down on that table and buryin’ myself in that hot little body of yours. Hannah trembled at the picture his words painted. Jared continued, “If that smoke alarm hadn’t gone off I can guarantee that I would have gone off and I’d have taken you with me.”

Jared could stand it no longer and began trailing his finger down her skin from her neck to her naval where the shirt hung open. Hannah shivered, wanting nothing more than to let the shirt slip from her shoulders, to once again have his hands on her bare skin. Instead she pulled the sides together and snapped it closed over her breasts. She’d done enough impulsive things for one day. Hannah sighed, “Jared we don’t really know one another and I think this is moving way too fast. I’ll admit there’s an attraction here, but I don’t want either of us to get hurt.”
Jared sighed, caressing her cheek with the pad of his thumb. “I’d never hurt you Hannah, and if you want to slow down then we’ll slow down. Just don’t tell me there’s no hope of us getting together at all ‘cause I gotta tell you, I want you so much I ache with it. I’ve wanted you since that night years ago at the kissing booth. Do you remember?”
Hannah nodded, speechless.
“I’d have taken you right then that night if you hadn’t been sixteen. You nearly drove me insane, I wanted you so badly.
Hannah drew in a shaky breath and said softly, “I wouldn’t have stopped you Jared. I wanted you to take me.”

“I wanted you to take me.” That one sentence repeated itself over and over in Jared’s head as he drove home. He’d been completely blown away by the fire burning in Hannah’s eyes when she’d whispered those words. Sweat broke out on his forehead as he thought about the mistake they would have undoubtedly made had they both given in to their desires that night. He’d been right to walk away even if it had made him feel like hell.

Hannah had only been sixteen for cryin’ out loud, and even if she’d thought she’d wanted to make love with him then, Jared didn’t think she really knew what she would be getting in to. Jared squirmed in his seat because he knew that back then he wouldn’t have given a thought to protecting Hannah. He and his buddies had laughingly called anyone who wore a condom a pussy. He’d just been damn lucky that none of the girls he’d had sex with back then had gotten pregnant. God, he’d been such an arrogant ass. Thank heaven as he got older he’d gotten smarter and more discriminating. He could have very well ruined both their lives with his selfishness for he’d known then that Hannah was a virgin. Hell, he couldn’t be sure she wasn’t still a little naïve. She’d given him one hell of a red-hot kiss but there was also this innocence about her he wanted to explore.
He sighed as he pulled into his drive. He was older and wiser now, Hannah was a grown woman and he intended to pursue this attraction between them. He stepped out of his truck and headed through the house to his study. His frustration was like a living thing and needed a release. He sat down at the desk and put pen to paper, pouring everything he was feeling into the poetry he wrote.
