Man And A Tree D G Williford
once in a valley was a Man
a lonely Man with only his trees
one day Man found in the woods
a treee unlike any other
it was multi-colored and wispy to the eye
but its branches were very strong and healthy
Man wanted this tree
so he dug up the strange tree and took it home
Man lovingly transplanted the tree
taking care of its every need
as each day passed, the tree became weaker and more feeble
no matter what Man did the tree would not flourish
Man pampered it - talked to it - loved it
but to no avail
tree wanted to be back in the forest
where it belonged
Man knew he must let go
and return the beautiful tree to its home
Man spent the whole night sitting beside
the strange and haunting tree
Man wondered why it could not be happy there
with him
Man would never know
all Man knew was the tree was happy in the woods
and happy was what Man wanted for the tree
back they went to the forest
Man and tree
Man put tree back into the deep dark earth
tree wavered, fluttered and shook in the wind
Man did not look back
but thought he heard a sigh
many years later Man was walking in the woods
and looked up to see a very tall very splendid grand tree
with multi-colored bark and wispy branches
man walked on
Tree waved in the wind

"it brought tears into my eyes.....the tree, however, could have stayed with the Man if she knew how to grow by herself, never under his shadow. To relate, my dear, is always an art. Beautiful, indeed...the type poem that catches my attention. Excellent work!" -- Dri, Dri, dri_cook@yahoo.com.
"Deb, this is beautiful!!! One of your best I think. " -- km.
"Thanks Dri and KM. I found this today when I was looking through some of my old stuff. I wrote this to a guy I was dating that was a nice guy but smothering me and I just wasn't happy. Thanks for the comments! Deb" -- Author.

"on the other hand, men are like that sometimes, wanting to covet what they can't have, destroying beauty along the way! simply brilliant D.G. i think! " -- NPillay.
