Mold Or Old? D G Williford
Clinging to the mold covered ledge
Cold and wet…
drip drip drip…
Her nails were black with dirt
Ragged from clawing
How long had the roach been on her hand?
Yesterday was shopping, champagne pedicure at Washington’s
Massage by Erik and martinis at O’s
Today was this
trembling appendages, chattering incisors, bloody blisters
and rodents.
I was so tired
I had eight hours of sleep the night before
Why couldn’t I hang on to the ledge?
Why couldn’t I kick the fat rat and watch his eyeballs explode?
Leave me here…
I don’t want to grow old
I don’t want to get Alzheimer’s
I don’t want to get a 3% discount on a cup of coffee at Hardee’s
Just let me stay here in the dark
On the ledge
with my friends and the mold.
