My Friend The Tiger And Me Sue (Sooz) Simpson
I met a tiger here today, as I was on my walk.
I wanted by, I cared for non, but tiger wanted talk.
“Ahem!
Excuse me,
Hang on
...Whoa !
Easy, ...
Steady Lad, ...
Take it slow –
I want an answer, need to know
Why was, your head put on so low?
Is that the way that you were made? Well you were done wrong I’m afraid.
Did no one ever tell you mate,
did they not say afore too late,
A head should NEVER, NEVER be below the shoulders, don’t you see?
In defiance, as is me, I had no words to say.
I hung my head still lower and shuffled on my way.
He sidled up beside me, in easy step we strode
and thus we walked, in silence along the busy road.
I glared for he had jumped my space, We moved, he took me room.
So there we walked, the three of us.....
The tiger, Me,and Gloom!
“So come on boy,
spill the beans,
tell the tale,
rip the seams,
have a wail.
What on earth could be so bad? For such an affable young Lad.
What could pull you down so low? Where is it that you fear to go? “
And so it went as time stood still,
he goaded,
prodded,
bullied,till
He hit the truth, as Tigers will, and tears fell,as tears spill.
“So what then boy could be so awful? What could be so cruel?”
“Don’t you know, can’t you see. You OAF.Of course it’s
SCHOOL.”
“Oh I see. I should have known. I’m so stupid I could groan.
I’m a Fool,
an Idiot,
you can call me a Lion
They’re so dense they’d even eat Iron.
They’re the dimmest of Wildcats, more stupid than Crock.
Oh, don’t start me on Lions,`coz I’ll never stop.
Weeell, the problems a toughie, that I’ll grant, I can see you are carrying more than the
Ant,
Who carries a lot, on his shoulders you know? More weight than himself and his wife
she’s called Flo!
Nice girl but she got squashed you know?
Still that’s another road to go.
So, Son, the way I see it is this.
You need help,Let’s think. Now give me a kiss.
Thank you,
and we’ll put our heads together,
closer,
closer
Mind the lamppost .....Oops, too late
A bloody nose, now isn’t that great.
As if we `aint got enough of a worry, He has to alter his face in a hurry.
I know.
I’ve GOT IT!
It’s Great ,
It’s a Whizz.
I’m a Marvel.
A Genius.
A Wonder.
The Bizz.
I’ll come to School, It might be fun.
I’m coming with you Lad ...we’ve won.
Now boy, I must speak of the gravest talk. SSShhh, can anyone hear us as we walk?
Look Left.
Look Right.
Look Fore.
Look Aft.
They seek my magic they seek my
craft.
They know, that I have the Power, you see?.They seek to find me, They seek to see.
I’m there,Then PUFF! .I am no more. I Exit Where there is no door.
They look.
They Scour.
They Peer to see.
They seek my INVISIBILITY!
And the only way to detect that I’m there,is sniff!! Smell the faint niff of Tiger left
there on the air.
Oh Dear.
Oh Dog it.
Oh No.
You have Tricked me,
You’ve conned my secret, and now you’ve ticked me.
I’m gonna’ EXPLODE.
No.
No.
No.I’m calm. So my little friend knows it.
It doesn’t mean harm.
It’s a SECRET.
a Secret,
Can you keep a Secret?
Answer me boy,
.answer me now
Can you keep a secret ....do you know how?
You know when I greet you, that if you don’t keep it,
I’ll just have to EAT YOU!
If you can keep it, then mornings I’ll meet you, Sniff .you’ll know that I’m there.
floating across like a cloud on the air, or sitting behind Mrs. Bramhams chair.
With a wink and a smile, you’ll know I am there.
If you see Spots, before you eyes, It’s not a Leopard there that Lies,
It’s ME!
but I am in disguise, and only you are to the wise.
If you’re counting.
One.
Two.
Three.
Count my stripes and you will see.
It falls into place, as it should be, and who will know but you and me?
When three plus four, makes thirty four,
and eight minus three is eighty three .....
I’ll whisper softly in your ear.that three plus four is seven dear.
And if Mrs. Bramham starts to shout,
and children flee,
and children Pout
And someone yells “Oh help watch out!
That’s when I aid you, do not doubt.
But not with a low rumble of thunder, as I creep out low, from under,
her chair where I usually sit and snore, No I won’t come out with a snarl and a roar,
a gnashing of teeth, as I drop to the floor.
nostrils flaring and eyes all aglare,
lashing my tail as it flails through the air,
I’m not a Tiger, whose feared and mauls, all ripping flesh, white teeth and squalls.
I never test my claws down the back, of a teacher of wisdom, who carries the knack,
of bringing in line a hundred or more,
little darlings who tantrum, and stamp on the
floor.
Striking fear deep down in a Tigers heart but your teachers Mark, they carry that art.
Not me!
I’ll creep to the side of teachers chair and rest my head, where her hand is
....There,
And every child in the class will hear.
A purring that’s so soft and dear.”
So who would not respect the might, Of a Tiger who’s always sweetness and light.
And there we sit the three of us.
The Class.
ME ....... and of course .....

"Hey Banjo Woman! Watch where you aim that thing, I just got done saying how great Sooz's other piece is. St.George was right, you are an idiot." -- KungFu Gibbon.
"That's okay I'm not keen on this one anyway. Mind I remember being quite chuffed with it when I wrote it, and my son liked it. But, it would be nice to know 'why' it sucks. Okay your review has helped me enormously in that now I won't pin my hopes on the Nobel prize for literature on this piece. It will save me hours not having to think up a clever speech, but without knowing why it sucks the next piece I write is likely to be just as suckee. Thank-you 'both' for the reviews. Greatly appreciated. " -- Sooz, Dalton-in-Furness, England, Cumbria.
