Nothing But Touch
Rae
The sky is red. I sip my coffee and hold the mug tightly so I can feel the diminishing heat of it against my palms. Memories of that night flash through my mind. Dim, at first, like far-away lightning. I know it's coming back, but still the sky is red and still I taste the coffee. A longer flash. Still I feel the warmth in my palms
Carnal. More, I had said. I had said it a lot. More, between gasping breaths and cringes. Like I were an animal. Like I knew nothing but touch. Light touch, hard touch, desperate touch. More.
Not so red anymore. It changes quickly.
Eyes say so much. They speak of morals, and the lack thereof. They give directions. No, they command. They soak up the body and present to the outside world what is happening inside. Here it is. And I know I should be caught up in that and I know I mustn't speak. But more he can't see it and more he's not looking and more he's not seeing.
Pain. The touch builds it up. The touch sets a trap and it lures and it tempts and the pain is just an animal that is just doing its part. And touch captures it and pain is surprised and it fights. It fights, but it's a gracious loss.
The sun is up. The night is over. Here is proof that the time does pass.
