Of Dreams And Memories
Ashley Burdett

Do you remember those nights
That you and I used to spend
Hid away from the world?
When everything that once was living
Had claimed its daily rest and
Become so much like the dead,
We used to slip away
Under the blanket of a moonless sky.
To partake upon our adventures
While the world lay dreaming.
Do you remember those nights?
The ones where we used to lie
The whole night through
Believing that we were God’s chosen few
To remain alone in a world
That had fallen away from His favor and grace.

(Those nights of which you speak,
Were nothing more then your ever earnest imagination
Playing upon your soul.
Those nights came to you
While you lay like the world,
In your dead-fast slumber.
Nothing more then dreams
Those nights were.
How far your visions have fallen from reality.)

Oh-.
Then surely you must remember those nights
In which we lay beneath the clusters of stars
That come to surround a harvest moon.
Sure, you must recall how we would once again
Steal away from our sheltered lives
To spend the nights entertaining our love in flesh
While the world spent the night safely tucked away
In their beds.
Surely, those nights cannot be the creation of my mind
Surely, I know what to call reality
And what to call the fictitious world
In which I spend my nightly rest.

(You fail to comprehend the words
That I attempt to speak.
I know not if you hear their meaning
And wish not to believe their truth
Or if you truly fail to grasp
The meaning of everything that I have said.
But how are you to speak of me?
To speak of us?
When never a love was shared…
Never even a passing glance…
When the entire world of our love
Is nothing more then a product
Of your own creation
Born in a night’s slumber.)

"Good mental pictures, and good love emotions...a nice piece. An excellent use of conflicting definitions too. different colored ink is another way I can suggest for distinction. But the way you have it here at Storymania is better than initials and probably is the best option." -- Brian O Neil.
