On Abortion
Today I’ve seen violence, merciless and cruel A tiny babe torn limb from limb, in a bloody pool
Today I’ve heard a silent scream in an agony of mute appeal An innocent infant crushed alive, with no thought or feel
Today a vulnerable victim of man’s misdeeds Has been wrenched and torn alive Has never had the air to breathe Or even taste the flavour of life
Today, a hypodermic, so healing in its powers Is being used to shrink life dead within a matter of hours
Today, the creator of life – the sacred womb Is being so soiled and degraded, to make a messy tomb
Today it is happening Today it is real The tears on my cheeks bear testimony That man’s an un-condemned criminal

"Great poem, since carries in it a strong message, which every individual literate or illliterate needs to read and understand. Way to go Avis, even if 10 people reading your poem decide against abortion, trust me that would be a big difference!!" -- Jitendra Pande.
"Abortion - A topic which is so much spoken about and yet has been treated as just one of those not so happy things - ur poem helps to bring out the pain and agony of the aborted fetus. The use of words like merciless, torn, bloody, cruel, etc., bring out what we all tend to forget... the life of the unborn fetus. As an individual in favor of women and against female foeticide i am very happy that u have taken the initiative to bring out the fact that abortion is not something interesting but something that causes pain and agony... and we need to make more people aware of the fact... So Keep up the good work." -- Sharon.
