Pathetic Phallacy Tamsin Butler
Pathetic fallacy
The sullen clouds seem to encase me in an almost deafening silence.
I look over the sea and not even the sound of the waves can be heard.
In the distance a low rumble begins to build like the shriek of a siren.
I raise my face to the sky and feel the cool wet drops start to fall,
Entwining with the hot tears that are creeping through my final defence.
My heart starts to beat faster, like a newly caged, frightened bird
The angry lightening splits the sky and shows a glimpse of heaven.
I scream with all my soul, until the gods themselves return my call.
The sea crashes on the rocks drowning them a million times.
The rain above rides lashing down, drumming a tune of sorrow.
Titan on his horse rises up, the white surge of his mane
He smiles to me as if to say my grief to the depths has been sent.
My heart feels strange now, nothing if not immensely hollow.
The sea retreats grabbing at the stones and slowly ebbing away the pain
I stand alone on the beach smiling the gods have heard my song of lament
