{Author's note: Even a werewolf, one of the super-
natural kings of beasts, can be forced to change
with the times.}

The change began before he could even shed his
clothing.
He was deep chested after the change, his hackles
rising with rage as he slung his head around, hunger
snarling within him.
The insatiable hunger rose from belly to throat,
from throat to mouth. He felt as if he hadn't eaten in days,
even though it had only been last night.
He had learned to be more careful than he used to be;
with the new city ordinances now in effect, a new
curfew set for 10 p.m. He'd heard the curfew was
strictly enforced, WITH force, if necessary. The
world had changed alot by the year 2013.

His hunger grew rapidly, making him crave fresh
meat. He'd tried fresh meat from the local butcher's
shop, to curb his insatiable hunger, but to no
avail. Butcher's meat was never fresh enough; it had
been subjected to the coldness of refrigeration,
lost all essence and taste.
He preferred the fresh meal of warm, wet, saucy
meat with still spurting blood, slimy entrails.
Fresh meat.
HUMAN meat.

The hunger kept getting worse; it was demanding
swift and bloody satisfaction.
He used his clumsy paws to push his discarded
clothing under some shrubbery, hiding it from the
moonlight. It was the moon that drew the madness
from his blood, started the metamorphosis, but he'd
need the clothing later when he returned to take
human form.
The night was warm and windless, the woods close by
seeming to hold it's breath.
He padded over to the treeline, darted through
the trees to the safe haven of the darkness. He
crouched down by a mistletoe spotted oak tree,
his obsidian eyes fixed on the jogger's path close
by. One of them might come along at any moment.
The city park could be dangerous after dark,
but it was still the perfect hunting ground for
him.
He hadn't had to wait long; his alert,
tensing ears caught the vibration of human
footsteps.
Light, not heavy, he thought.
A JOGGER.
A FEMALE jogger. Easy prey.
He liked the joggers; those into a daily and
tough regimen of physical fitness.
The footsteps of a jogger told, surely, of a very
worthwhile prey, of prime, lean meat, an abundance
of fresh and healthy meat.

As he heard the jogger approaching, he closed
his eyes, daydreaming of long ago, when he'd run
naked on all fours, his face contorted into a muzzle,
sniffing the night air, smelling blood.
Yes....leaping and bounding out in the open,
gazing up at the full moon and laughing..laughing..
...then...howling, barking.
His paws padding through clumps of freshly
bloomed nightshade, smelling the scent of sweat,
of fear...of...BLOOD.
Yes...he thought. The BLOOD.
The sweet, sweet blood...it bathes my fur as well
as quenches my thirst, just as the fat, full moon
bathes me with it rays of life-giving light.

He opened his eyes to see the path heavily
shadowed, but with the night vision of his ancestors,
he wasn't worried.
He crouched lower to the ground for the anticipated leap.
Dimly, moving at a steady pace, the jogger appeared
from the darkness. It was a female, as he'd already
surmized.
About five feet, eight inches tall, about one hundred
and twenty pounds, tall, slim, muscular. Long raven
hair down to her waist, tied back in a ponytail.
Large....firm...breasts.
Almost a pity, he thought, his loins beginning to
stir at an unconvienient time.
To feed on this one. So young, so beautiful, so..
...so...FRESH!
There was a light froth on his muzzle as he began
whimpering, salivating, almost tasting her flesh.

He couldn't hold back any longer.

He sprang from his bush of shadow, towering over
the jogger as his hind paws left the ground.
The jogger toppled backward, sprawling and
helpless.
He bent over her now, smelling her sex...no..
what is that smell?
He bared his canines, breathing his hot, foul,
breath in her face...
it had been a hunting strategy that had never
failed him.....
....until NOW.
The shock, the blind panic, that hurled him away
from her was so strong it knocked him back against a tree,
gasping for breath, his eyes darting around for a
means of escape.
This JOGGER, the EASY PREY, it isn't...isn't...
...HUMAN.
He stood on teetering haunches, changing now,
resuming human form before he was ready, before
he could even feed...
...he spat out several lupine fangs, and some human
teeth as well. His skin shrank back against his
bones, his fur falling to the ground in tufts.
He stood naked and sweating profusely, a beast
of the night yet frightened senseless.
He could see that his intended victim wasn't what
she had appeared to be now; neon eyes flashed at
him in the darkness, as she rose to her feet with
a robotic like gait.
He could see square, box shaped joints in her
arms and legs, heavy guage, tinsel steel bones
threatening to burst through synthetic skin.

''Who...WHAT are you?'' he asked in a quavering
tone.
She didn't answer, as she advanced toward him
with her arms outstretched, vise like hands opening
and creaking as if in need of an oiling.
Every chip in the computerized brain beagn transmitting
the coded messages, translated into simple, binary
terms even a beast could understand;
''DANGEROUS...Non-human...Non-human...
...Kill...kill...KILL...!''

"COOL! That was really good Doc! Very descriptive and well written." -- Michelle.
"Hello Doc, I read your request for aide in registering with the WBBS, and I want to help you attain that goal. I’ve been told by Judith Goff of your disillusionment with Storymania, and of your desire to improve your writing skills. If you can tell me exactly what is the error that you receive when trying to register with the BBS, then I may be able to help you get past that area of rough terrain. Since you have not responded to any of my messages, I may be unknowingly and ironically “bothering” you in my attempts to help. If this is so, then please write to jerryageorge@earthlink.net and in the subject heading write simply “No Response” and I will stop in my attempts to assist you in this matter. Otherwise I will assume you have failed to see any of my messages, or that messages you have written in response to my own have been erased by the Storymania administration. If that is the case then I understand all too well. If your reply messages are being hindered on the Storymania site, then feel free to contact the above email address. It is the sincere hope of Judith Goff and myself to bring you to the Writer’s BBS where there is a better chance of improvement for your work. " -- JA St. George.
"Hi there Doc, if this doesn't work, then I swear I'll shut up, go away, and leave you alone. Go http://writers-home.mail.everyone.net to sign up. I'm fairly certain the registration problem you're having is one of Invalid Email. I won't bore you with the details of why it won't accept certain email providers, but the one I mentioned above will work. Now I'm not trying to sell you on anything except a damn decent writing site, the email provider mentioned is free, there's no catches you won't get from any other email provider. It'll give you an email address that'll allow you to register. You don't need to give up your present email address, just have two, and tend to the new one only to keep it active, which really wouldn't be difficult, heck you can even use the second email if you want. If that doesn't get you in, and if that doesn't help you, then I am genuinely sorry for having wasted your time. On a positive note, when you get into the BBS site, it can be a bit daunting for a first time viewer, since there is so much useful information, but I've created a walk-through you can ask for by emailing train_of_thought@hotmail.com and simply requesting in the subject line "WBBS Guideline." It's that simple. If you want to go even further and have a personal guide through the site just call on me at jerryageorge@earthlink.net and I'll be happy to do it. I wish you the best Doc, in whatever you choose." -- JA St. George.
"By the way, I did in fact read the story; all about our unfortuante lupine friend running wild through the darkened forest, but I was unsure if the robot lady was some kind of government weapon to clean the streets or perhaps a synthetic alien." -- JA St. George.
"Looking back at the beginning of the story, I guess it is the former." -- JA St. George.
