Pull Of The Tides D G Williford
The moon was shining across the waves, a billion
shards of light like the facets of a diamond
A strong ocean breeze that sprayed a fine layer of
salty mist across my face made me feel totally
at one with the sea
Standing at the edge of the tide
I felt seashells as age old as the world itself
The sea foam swirled around my toes and then pulled
away as the dark waters called it back
The crashing of the waves against the tired shoreline
echoed, seeming to fill the whole night with a violent frenzy
and at the same time a calming repetitive rhythm
The jetties covered with thick crustaceans appeared
to be arms stretching out to embrace the ocean as a wife
welcoming her husband home from sea
Like the calling of lovers to one another, calling, calling
and sometimes no answer
The calming breezes sent a message to my senses
Saying; This is the time for love for lovers but then
again savoring the solitude was equally enjoyable.
Turning again to face the sea, I felt from head to toe
as if nature had made love to my body from the top
of my sun-warmed hair, to the small trickle
of perspiration that ran between my breasts,
to the complete and total satisfaction
of my heart
I will never forget this day
the day that a warm spring day was my lover
always satisfying always blessed and always undemanding
With that I stood and walked away, my shawl trailing
behind me catching on a sea oat, it fell
My only reminder to my lover that I was there.
