ABOUT
THE AUTHOR
I'm 19 and I currently a student at a local college. I'm pursuing a degree in biology. Despite my affinity for the sciences, I've had a passion for writer. I've been told I'm extremely talented, I still have yet to find the beauty that other people do in my writing... Give something a read and tell me what you think. [July 2003]

Reflection (2) Ashley Burdett
Standing before a mirror, I study me, All of me. My eyes pass over features, Dull features Calloused features Hard features My features. Eyes that are a little too large For such a round face. A nose that juts out To take up space, A little too much space. Lips that crack and break To form a half smile In attempts to hide Teeth that are crooked and yellowing. A round face framed by dark hair, Untamed, Unmanageable, A wild animal. Hair that hangs down And hides small breasts That swell to tiny lumps Underneath clothes too tight. The eyes slide down further still To see a growing stomach That protrudes just a little too far. Legs short and unstable, Hold the body upright. Glancing over, I see me. Parts of me. All of me. Thoughts fill my head With pain and anguish.
I wish that I was beautiful.
Night falls and light wanes As the room grows darker And darker still, I am able to see myself In a new light. My eyes pass over features, Full features, Supple features, Soft features. My features. Eyes that are in perfect symmetry And open with just a tiny Hint of sparkle. A nose that holds More character then nearly All of those before it. Lips that are full and supple, Spread to reveal The blinding smile of perfect teeth. A perfect face framed by sable hair. Combed. Styled. Coiffed. Hair that cascades down To enhances breasts. Small, but rounded breasts That sit above a slimming stomach And lead, voluptuously, to lean And perfect legs. Glancing over, I see me, Parts of me, All of me, In a whole new darkness. For here, In this room as black as death Where there is no reflection For me to see, I come to know that I am indeed Beautiful.

"fantastic, one of,if not the best ive read, theres more obvious truth in that piece of writing than ive seen in a long while.everyone sees things that they dont like, its only when they look more closely that they realise that they are indeed beuatiful,as everyone is,there's a grain of sand in every pearl" -- Stuart, England.
