Remembrance Rikki Duncan
As the relatives all gathered
Around the Smokey, smoldering waste
In remembrance of the loved ones
Who were gone without a trace
Praying for some solace
To come into their lives
Grieving mothers, fathers, son’s and daughters
Broken hearted husbands, broken hearted wives
How could this ever happen
Someone was heard to say
Oh dear God, sweet Jesus help me
Another was heard to pray
As tears rolled down the faces
That were thought to have none left
Eyes red and pained just staring
Loved ones pictures clutched to chest
My lord fill this emptiness inside me
A wife cried out this plea
Take away the chains of mourning
Set the captives free
For we are overcomers
as death has lost its sting
Some day my eyes will sparkle
Some day my voice will sing
I know that you are with me
That you will see us through
As I stand today in mourning
I can only cling to you
All I have left are memories
Of a love I cannot touch
No more to hold or kiss them
Or say, I love you very much
A child was heard to whisper
Lord help me understand
Why I have no Mummy
To sit and hold my hand
No one could find an answer
Or find the words to say
We could only trust in Jesus
We could only kneel and pray
We might never know the answer
We might never find out why
We might never find the reason
Why our loved ones had to die
