AUTHOR
Vianne-Marie Fortier
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Sixteen.
Growing up too fast.
Poetry in motion, verses flying past her on the highway.
And she breathes in the air.
She can smell the perfume of decaying unpublished literature.
To her, it reminds her of home
And the Pennsylvania sunshine.
[June 2004]

Ringing Bells
Vianne-Marie Fortier

And, I stand here.. Times Square.
I remember you loved how the lights flashed,
Every advertisement was a Christmas display.
And your eyes shone with the light of the city.
You were enthralled, entranced, and mesmerized by the people
Walking through the throng.
Snow fell,
Surrounding us in a sheet of soft frost.
And you were there,
Catching snowflakes on your tongue,
And telling me how great it was to finally be home again.

I come here now,
To Times Square.
I can hear the Salvation Army Santas,
Ringing their bells,
Gathering a crowd around a donation pot.
But, where are you?
You always loved Times Square,
And the hustle and bustle of New York City
In Christmas.
