Ringing Of War Rae
I sit in a room empty of thought
my ideas are empty hangers
there's a ring in my ears of the last war fought
and it will ring there for thousands of years
under my head is a pillow of hope
it's thin and holds shape no more
my will is hung from invisible rope
and my blind hands still grope for a door
chorus:
The wind is hollow
the rivers are shallow
love is a game these days
Deserts spread wide
in a sandy high tide
and the clocks don't have hands in this waste
The mind of mankind is feedble and bent
a zealous hand shoots at a flea
the heaven's cry out for warmth come and went
and we no longer know decency
running in circles I am fevered and sick
I killed with bare hands just today
my conscience played me one hell of a trick --
it didn't have one word to say
chorus
I shook out a picnic at the edge of the earth
and watched all the lights burn out
to all of damnation I watched imps give birth
and for my small part I was proud
I came to my room and put my coat on its hook
took a seat in the flames without tears
I thought of dead angels and my fevered hands shook
as they held back the ringing of thousands of years
chorus
