Chapter 2
If there were any dogs around here, they sure
were hiding because the open yard Amberly just
walked herself onto only contained cannibals that
had already been shot down. She could tell in
the pale moonlight that endless splashes of blood
had fallen but nothing was moving, No dogs, no
Chelsea, nada thing, nothing. “Chelsea,” she
whispered harshly, afraid to shout. Unfortunately
for her, the girl was just as scarce as the
howling dog she’d heard. Apparently it seemed,
she didn’t just wandered away; she had taken off
in a sprint.
'Why did she choose to do this alone, by herself?
Had I been misguided to think that she might have
actually had a liking in me?' Questions began to
occupy her mind. 'Well, why don’t you go find out
instead of standing there all night?' , A
stronger, louder, more demanding voice
interrupted.
Amberly checked all around her. She could walk
straight ahead to a locked chain gate, which
would be pointless because she could tell that
she hadn’t gone through there. To her left, there
was a wooden cabin that held some prisoners
inside. She just had a sense that she didn’t go
into there, figured she was smart enough not to
at least. So she crept along the edge of the
building to the other side.
When she reached it, out of the corner of her
eye, a half hidden body on the ground was pulled
into a hole, out of sight by something that was
obviously struggling and much smaller. 'Huh? What
the -?' Her curiosity clicked in. With her back
pressed up against the wall, she inched her way
over. Well, whatever it was, it wasn’t there any
longer by the time she had reached it. 'Oh well,'
and she shrugged her shoulders. She went past
another corner and found herself a metal door and
the same locked gate from before but now on the
other side of it. 'Hmm.. . Well this seems to be
the only place that I can think of that Chelsea
would’ve gone', and with that, she turned the
handle to go inside.
Now there was a metal detector, a security box,
and a deactivation switch for the alarm. Not too
far away, she heard hungry zombies banging
themselves up against some windows down in the
hall ahead of her. Well, that’s a definite sign
that an uninfected human has passed by here not
too long ago.
Amberly placed her hand in her pocket to retrieve
her lighter and gun clips, the only other
possessions she had with her besides her M93R.
Carefully, she walked inside the metal detector
and was instantly greeted with the security box
lid opening and a feminine monotone voice recorded
to say, “Please remove any metallic items into
the security box before continuing.” She dropped
her stuff off and closed the lid. “Thank you,
you may continue,” the same voice answered,
granting her access. She moved on down the
walkway till she came upon the windows.
'Fucking hell, man! Those are on the verge of
breaking.' She quickly glanced all around her
for any sort of way to defend herself, just in
case. 'Fuck!' The hall was spotless; nothing was
left around for her aid. 'Guess my only option is
to run to the other side and hope none of these
cheap things break on me.' She started off in a
power-walking mode. Then when she heard the
sound of glass cracking from the window nearest
her, 'fuck!' And she took off running. She
didn’t stop until another metal detector was
standing there right in front of her. 'Hmm, well
I’ve got nothing on me' so she just walked right
on through to the next room.
This room consisted of two tables littered with
stuff on top, a weird two-pieced machine and
another door attached to the wall she was closest
to. She was staring around, wondering what to do
first. 'Curiosity killed the cat; now move them
feet.'
On the table farthest from her, there was a spray
that could fight off the infection if she got bit
once and some BOW weapon rounds. A file and flame
rounds were scattered on the table next to it.
She collected the rounds and picked the spray,
inspecting it. This could come in handy later.
Then, she took the file into her hands. It
explained that the machine in the room was a
scanner and a duplicator. There were directions
on using it also.
Amberly approached the door and now feeling tired
and old, she began to wonder if she would ever
perhaps see her sister ever again.
