Sacrificial Lamb Judith Goff
An ashen face on a crowded street
Eyes that penetrate the soul,
Lips of pomegranate red
That part to reveal teeth
White as bleached bone
Honed as sharp as daggers
Gliding through the press of warm flesh
Nostrils flaring, inhaling
Savoring the blood-scent
Emanating from bodies
Ripe with humanity,
Succulent as blood oranges
Stalking one, then another; seeking prey
Casting a sinister spell
With tendrils of allure
Designed to capture innocence;
Chaste, righteous
Incorrupt, inviolate
Drawn into the shadowy nether by
Promise of eternity
Irresistible immortality
A fatal, enthralling charm
Of corruption
And never ending damnation
The spell is cast; the vein is pierced
Sweet blood flows,
A crimson torrent
Of the vital essence, elixir of life;
Offering of blood;
Sacrificial lamb
