Snow falls
Flakes like lace doilies
Land silently, softly,gently all around
Virgin and pure
The snow covers the village and the countryside like a chilly white blanket
Until morning when children play
Throwing snowballs and building snowmen
Dogs chase sticks in the chilly air
Snow clinging to fur and gloves and eyelashes
Then homeward bound
Footprints and pawprints and wellington boot prints
Until
Tonight when the snow falls again
Virgin and pure
Covering the village and the countryside in a chilly blanket of snow
