Sounds Of Silence And What I Can't Say Pearl S
There's something to be said for silence
There's praises to be paid to those who do not say a word
There's what to be remembered for restraint
Haven't you ever wondered why those who shout and sneer and cry
Are seldom ever heard?
And we bear the taint of our careless mistakes all our lives
All our lives
I bear the labels and the burdens of such I've given up my mysteries by saying too much
What there is to me is known to you I've been translated through and through
And though I know I must have something good I wanted you to see it but nobody could
It was buried beneath the name tags I've been given for all my thoughtless words, all my bad decisions
There's something to be said for silence
There's praises to be paid to those who say not a word
There's what to be remembered for restraint--
Haven't you heard? Haven't you
Heard?
In a place where I've no saving grace for everyone known my story and what I've got to say
And there is no hidden glory to being talk of the town
When you can't stop the lies they're spreading around
And to think! Once I was just as they
Finding elation in mutations of some one else's pain
What's news, what's good, the juice, how I wish I could
Go back and change my traits change my fate
Change my self cause now it's too late
Too late
There's something to be said for silence cause now that's all I've got
There's praises to be sung to quietness does not
Incriminate a victim, defame some one with words
For speaking their mind too many times till all the town has heard
Plaster me with labels, make me fit your cliche
Deform and main and mangle me, I've got my mouth to blame
And if ever I complain, just point to all the things I used to say
Back in the days when I bore my iniquity in a red blaze
And any thought that popped into my brain came out as a phrase
If I could take back every word I'd be done paying for my foolish ways
If only there was a way
There's something to be said for silence but not by me.

"This is way off of what I normally will review. I don't do too well with this style, so keep that in mind. There are some lines that don't make sense. Either there is a word wrong, or the meaning is lost somewhere. The point of the poem does come through, but it is a difficult read (and not just because of this stupid computer either.) I suggest you give it a little while, then re-read it aloud, word for word, to yourself. This isn't as easy as it seems, but if you can learn to do this, it will help polish your writing." -- Sylvia.
"Sylvia got here before me. I completely agree with her. I think there are some fantastic ideas and turns of phrase and images in here, but it`s lurching between poetry and prose. Some polish and it will shine. " -- Peter Rivendell.
"thanks. i wasnt sure about this either...the basic idea i was trying to get across was that it's better to be quiet and sort of keep your mysteries than talk all the time and consequently have everyone know you too well. any ideas?" -- pearl.
