The Beach Maiden

Of fair skin and ample breast
She came and stood
Toes buried in the sand
Shoulders square to the trade winds that skipped across the Gulf
She arched her back, tickled, perhaps, by a tropical breeze
While her sundress
Almost sheer, almost wet
Exposed the raging subtlety of her thighs

And as her palms fell open
Her head touched the nape of her neck
Wind blown hair, flowing like the ocean before her
Restless eyes sealed in silent prayer
Embraced by the warmth of the sun-drenched sky
Where she remained
Until the silhouette of her body was lost to whimsical shadows
And her footprints disappeared in memories made of sand

The Symphony Inside of Me

You are the whisper of snow on a holiday morning
The winged angel atop the Christmas tree
You are the glorious shroud of white capped mountains
And the symphony that plays inside of me

You are the sand that defines boundless waters
The wave that soothes the raging sea
You are the gentle touch of a midsummer's morning
And the purity of thought in a grand memory

You are the star that shines above all others
The wind that dances so carefree
You are the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow
And the answer to what is, and will always be

You are the amber in flames that warm the body
The silk that lingers for the eyes to see
You are the seed of a flower in an ageless garden
And the symphony that plays inside of me

The Time of My Life

It was in the summer
The heat charged forward
Unbridled in its path
Slapping my face
a desert wind

But my 68 mustang roared on
Windows down
Stereo blasting
Two empty beer cans
And a pack of stale smokes

Through the hills
Across the plains
Rusted side-pipes
Bouncing tailpipe
And a rear fender hanging on for dear life

Still, we charged forward
Me and a couple of half-packed suitcases
To a dream not yet lived
A road not yet traveled
A life not yet distinguished
