The Jump
Sara Roggy
I stand before the river’s edge
Wondering what I oughta do.
I’m thinking of jumping.
I sit on the grass
And wonder why
Why I feel so depressed
And alone all the time.
There are trees all around
And wind whistling through them
It’s a gloomy day
With gray skies and lots of wind.
That makes my dilemma worse,
Makes me more depressed.
My friends all leaving me
Is another big problem
None of them care
But they claim to be my friends.
I remember the times
When we used to laugh together
Go to parties
And stay up late talking.
All that has changed,
My family issues are worse
Parents got a divorce
And what could I do?
NOTHING.
All I could do
Was cry in my room
And lean on Dusty for support.
Now I stand again
Before the rushing gray waters
And spread my arms,
I’m ready to jump.
I tiptoe closer to the edge
And seconds later I find
Myself tumbling into the water.
This life was fun
But for now…I’m done with it.
As the water drags me down,
I say my last prayer
And then I go.
