The Model
Harvey Kennett

Melting in my mouth like chocolate draindrops,
The tears of the sky fill my heart with the mystery of a forgotten age,
Of idiosyncrasies I had hidden from the world;
For those who are not the model citizens of the 21st century
Are the enemy of the state, the enemy of the new culture of "lowest denomination", The enemy of pre-packed reason and soundbites,
Delivered straight to the mind,
Bypassing freedom of thought.

Raped, pillaged and processed,
A non-living human living in a non-human world,
Where my existence is determined by statistics,
By the irony of customer loyalty cards,
By demographic decree,
By every fact expect for me.

I sometimes think, wouldn’t government be easy
If we were all inert, inane, in memoriam ?

Each person manufactured to the whim of our political masters,
An army of ready made voters, predictable and precise,
Manipulated by command, by voice, by will.

The tears from the clouds mingle with my own,
As I gaze up in to the sky with wonder,
Then turn to return to Pod 5,
Where My Vote will count for something,
For somebody.

But not me.

"I know there is a point to this poem, but it just gets lost in the anarcy alien sci-fi world you created. But I'm sure all your buddies at the next Star Trek convention will enjoy listedning to this poem while feasting on chocolate draindrops, the offical candy of disgruntled oompa loomppas and Trekkies" -- Steven.
