ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Sixteen.
Growing up too fast.
Poetry in motion, verses flying past her on the highway.
And she breathes in the air.
She can smell the perfume of decaying unpublished literature.
To her, it reminds her of home
And the Pennsylvania sunshine.
[June 2004]

The New York Times (In Memoir Of Those Situated In The September 11th Tragedy)
Vianne-Marie Fortier

The mailman comes
‘Round each day,
Drops an edition of
The New York Times
On my deserted cement porch.
I dare not gaze
At the words that
Speak the truth.
The newspapers pile
Up on my porch,
The mailman comes
‘Round each day.
Rain pours from the sky
Staining my issues of
The New York Times.
The ink bleeds like
Human life from veins.
The print runs like
A mother’s tears
Saline and
Black eyeliner.
The sun bakes
The aging editions of
The New York Times.
The day reawakens
A mother’s hope
And she sweeps the
Papers from my
Cement porch.
