The Son Will Rise Again Over New York City Rikki Duncan
As the Lady stands with lamp held high
Her face set firm and proud
The people wake to see a new dawn
Arising from a cloud
A cloud of sadness,
A cloud of despair
Once thick in the street
Hanging low in the air
But the son will now shine
Through the hurt and the gloom
The light from the lamp
New life from the tomb
As New Yorkers awake
And face the new day
And this new light shines
All across U.S.A.
We all come to see
There is life after death
This hope fills the body
Like an intake of breath
As you come before God
And his mercy seat
Let the words of our Lord
Be a lamp to your feet
As the darkness is lifted
To the warmth of the sun
The hope of New York
Is there for every one
Where immigrants landed
In a country so free
A land that gives hope
For you and for me
We will over come
Like the settlers before
We will not stay down
But get up from the floor
As the lady stands proud
Her lamp held up high
We will shout out loud
Our hope will not die
As the skyline has changed
Over old Manhattan
The son will rise
Over New York again.

"this one i like alot rikki well penned ...just the last two lines didn't seem to flow as well ! seemed to have to strain to fit the ryme in? think for such a beautiful poem you should maybe cange the end..make it a little longer ..i feel the ending should have more of a punch." -- susan morris, OLDHAM, LANCS, United Kingdom.
