The Song That Failed
Richard Koss

In the early twentieth century, Sidney Cummings was just
another down on his luck, amateur song writer. However, his
chance at fame became a reality when the song he submitted to
a travel agency in England was selected to promote a much
publicized ocean voyage of that era.

The song's sheet music sold well for the first several weeks.
Then quite abruptly, the song disappeared into the memory banks
of obscurity. Music historians who remembered the composition,
attributed its lack of success to the song's lyrics.

Following are the lyrics of the song's verse and the first
four bars of its chorus. After reading these lyrics,I'm sure
you'll agree with the music historians.

VERSE - "Come with me my turtle dove
and join me on our trip of love.

I'm holding back all my emotion
till we sail upon that great big ocean."

CHORUS - "It would be so romantic
to sail the Atlantic
aboard the TITANIC with you."
