Winter On The Beach Kate Kerrison
The sun has risen over the beach
A lone man and his dog walk along the shore
The man inhales the cold salty air
Wind blows the sand into swirls and furrows
Water in the rock pools ripple
A gull circles and cries over head
Waves crash on the shore
It is winter on the beach
The man roams the beach looking for sticks
He finds one and throws it to the dog who chases it
Hands thrust deep in the pockets of his overcoat
Scarf wound around his neck, hat pulled low over his brow
He whistles to the dog
The dog lopes up to the man, tongue lolling coat sandy and wet
The man heads for hearth and home
Paw prints and footprint are all that remain
It is winter on the beach
