Without The Subtle Clouds Jersey Mike
The early September sun
Invades my bed
Brighter than it has the
Right to be
Piercing closed eyes
Sucking the final piece
Of sleep from my mind
These Septembers
Should be wet
Miserable
Pouring a mist all over
The tadpoles in the back
Spraying across the lawn
The field out back
Pieces of white drift
Past the window
Not snow but ashes
Without a clue
Going left then right
Lost in the sky
Confused by the sun’s
Radiant annoyance
I sit up and finish my
Latest Bukowski book
That I got earlier
This week from
The Amazons
Sandburg’s Chicago Poems
Sits on the floor
Corners of the cover
Softened, bend upwards
The book is tired
The sun is annoying
Pray for rain and
Drop the feet on
The floor
